Multi-service radio dimensioning for UMTS packet-switched services

چکیده
In this paper, we address the issue of multiservice packet demand modeling in the radio dimensioning process for 3G/IMT-2000 systems. For packet services, Quality of Service (QoS) is measured as a time delay over the radio interface. New tables stemming from simulations are proposed to convert the volume of packet data expressed in Mbits into a required pipe respecting the QoS. The mix of packet services with different QoS requirements and the mix of circuit and packet services are also addressed. This new demand modeling scheme has been implemented in Orange Support & Consulting’s dimensioning tool, ndtTM and compared to the results of Orange Support & Consulting’s UTRA simulation tool.

Mobile packet services are penetrating mobile markets rapidly. The mobile industry relies heavily on data services to replace traditional voice services. Designing a reliable packet service network is critical to the mobile operators’ ability to maintain their core competence in a data service market. متن کاملUMTS Services and Applications
The best known new feature of UMTS is higher user bit rates: on circuit-switched connections 384 kbps, and on packet-switched connections up to 2 Mbps, can be reached. Higher bit rates naturally facilitate some new services, such as video telephony and quick downloading of data. If there is to be a killer application, it is most likely to be quick access to information and its filtering appropr...

The standardization of the first releases of third-generation cellular systems was finalized in ETSI/3GPP Release 99. Two major systems in this standard are the universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) and the global system for mobile communication/enhanced data rates for global evolution (GSM/EDGE). UMTS has been tailored to offer thirdgeneration services—that is, high user data rates...
